Whilst Ms Boxer takes a small hiatus, the Milk River Madman has selected movies set in winter for this week’s theme.
Hmmmm, Winter Movies – well the first one that sprang to mind was The Lion in Winter, a great film with Peter O’Toole as King Henry II and Katharine Hepburn as his French Queen, Elizabeth of Aquitaine. With a host of British luvvies in the back-up cast, including the future Sir Anthony Hopkins, this is British soap opera at its best. You know that I adore the 16th Century Tudors but these Middle-Ages Plantagenets have always given the Eighth Henry a run for his money when it comes to drama and sex.
However, my second thought is the classic Groundhog Day. I didn’t want to watch the movie, I was out of sorts and grumpy because I was not a Bill Murray fan. However, we weren’t too far into the film, when I realised that this was going to become a real favourite and the archetypal example of winter movies. Watching this trailer reminded both Ruf and me what fun a RomCom can be.

I”ve never seen The Lion in Winter nor read it. Might have to grab my complete works of Shakespeare and give it a go. Who am I kidding. That won’t happen. Lot’s of anger in that movie it would appear. Also a young Timothy Dalton. Happy MCW Joanna C.
As a lifelong fan of Katherine Hepburn, I’ve seen this several times. I love that Hollyweird didn’t cast young actors in these roles, but let the more-than-middle-aged Hepburn and O’Toole carry the movie. Great pic/pick. Happy MCW!

Good morning Joanna,
Great choice this is one of my favorite movies. I will watch anything with Katharine Hepburn or Peter O’Toole in it. The combination of the two just made for great chemistry.
Happy new year and enjoy your clip day!

Well, you took the theme literally and found a winter-in-the-title movie. I love Kathrine Hepburn (I’ll peal you like a pair!) and really need to see more of her movies. In her younger years, she was a real looker.
Happy MCW!
