Remote Controlled Vibrator - Ann Summers Radio Love Review

Ruf and I tried a remote controlled vibrator a few years ago but I can’t seem to find the review.

I think it was called the Duo and it consisted of a small probe that went inside your vagina and another that you pressed against your clitoris. Both had a wire leading to a transmitter that attached to your waistband and were operated remotely by a key fob.

Ruf and I tested it during a visit to his local big shopping centre and, whilst it was good fun, it was also a bit of a pain. The transmitter was quite heavy and irritated my back where I’d attached it to my jeans. It was tough to keep the clitoral attachment in place as I moved around and, going to the toilet with all those wires was just a nightmare!

We used it and reviewed it and it got pushed to the back of the toy drawer and has not seen the light of day since.

So, when Ann Summers sent me the Radio Love to review, I thought it would be a similar device.

However, the technology for the remote controlled vibrator has moved on in those intervening years.

Radio Love Radio Love

Now you can enjoy yourself no matter where you are with this discreet, remote control, vibrating love egg. Simply insert the egg and attach the small keyring onto your keys, bag, in your pocket, or give to your other half to look after and control. With 4 functions just be careful where you set this off and make sure there is a seat near by as you’re sure to go weak at the knees!

Instead of probes, remote control eggs are now in vogue and, with a length of 3.5 inches (9cms) and girth of 4.75 inches (12cms), the Radio Love was such a big egg that I actually struggled to insert it into my vagina. The instructions say that liberal amounts of lubrication are recommended.  Well, the insertion certainly required required a large amount of lube plus a lot of deep breathing on my part to prise apart my vaginal muscles  and allow the oval shaped capsule to disappear inside me, leaving just the trailing handle hanging out.

So it’s a good job that I remembered to insert the three little batteries (provided within the pack) beforehand :) Line up the ridge inside the egg with its corresponding socket on the base and screw on the lid, ensuring that its waterproof washer is properly in place – more on that later! Once the connection is made, you can see the LED light inside the egg flash to show that it is working and ready to receive the signal from the remote control.

The four vibration options consist of three long constant buzzes of different strengths plus one intermittent pulse and these are operated by a key fob (small battery also provided in the pack) which has two buttons. One switches the device on and off and the other controls the variable vibration options.

To turn the toy on, you depress the on/off button on the fob and hold it down for 2-3 seconds. The LED inside the egg will start to flash… and continue to flash its ability to receive the signal for about an hour before going into sleep mode. To change the vibration setting, press the heart shaped button on the controller and the red light on the fob will light up to confirm that the signal has been sent.

With the egg inserted and all ready to go, I handed the fob to Ruf and waited for him to initiate some action. We had been planning to go to the cinema to test this but time was marching on and so Ruf wanted to have dinner first. After preparing and eating the meal, it had started to rain outside so we abandoned the idea of going out and watched a movie at home instead.

Of course, that’s when we remembered the Radio Love inside me. Ruf smiled secretively so I knew he was pressing the button… but nothing happened. Of course, over an hour had passed since its initial activation and it had gone to sleep. According to the instructions, you had to move the egg to wake it up.

So, there I was, dutifully jumping up and down and shaking it around with Ruf intermittently pressing the button to see if it was working. Nothing. It was with some consternation that I realised I was going to have to remove the egg and reinsert it. Still, nothing ventured, I reached in and, with a lot more heavy breathing, pulled it out and shook it about until the red light inside started to flash again.

Back to the bedroom for more lube and controlled breathing to replace it inside me.

What I didn’t realise was that it has a range of up to 10 metres and so the first buzz nearly made me hit the ceiling because I just wasn’t expecting it… or for it to be quite so powerful. And that set the pattern for the rest of an evening spent snuggled watching movies and sat companionably side by side on the sofa, working on our laptops. It made me jump and shriek every time he did it.

All I could do was thank my lucky stars that we hadn’t gone to the pictures for the test run! Only a horror movie could have explained and covered up my squeals and starts. With a vibration that strong, it also produces an audible buzz so I’m not sure the description of discreet and quiet is totally true. However, in a shopping centre or other busy environment, it probably would not have been noticeable. And, as long as Ruf had only depressed the button during action scenes in the movie, I think we could have got away with it… if I hadn’t been so jumpy.

Did it make me orgasm? Well no, but I don’t think it’s meant to. It’s a fun toy that provides a pleasant stimulation and frisson of naughtiness to a boring shopping trip. A sort of foreplay that can be capitalised upon later once you’ve reached a more private setting.

So, when we’d finished messing around and decided it was time for bed, the egg had to come out again. I reached inside and tugged at the part of the handle closest to the base of the egg to get the maximum purchase. As the device began to move south, it became acutely uncomfortable… as if something was dragging inside me, resisting my efforts to remove it.

I took a deep breath and pulled harder, coaxing it out. It took some time and was not particularly pleasant. As the egg emerged into the light of day, I discovered the cause of the problem.

The washer, that sits between the two halves of the egg and makes it waterproof, had pulled free from its retaining groove and had been dragging down my internal flesh impeding the progress of the smooth sides of the egg and leaving my innards feeling quite sore.

The resistance had been so strong that it had stretched the washer to almost twice its previous size and it has not sprung back. This means that it is now impossible to waterproof the egg when cleaning with warm soapy water so I’m not sure how many times I will be able to use it before the internal battery compartment is compromised.

In summary, it was good fun, if a little noisy. But you must make sure that the waterproof washer is fully retained in its groove before inserting it inside your vagina or it will really spoil the experience and future use of the toy.

Obviously I shall be passing this review to Ann Summers and requesting that this flaw is addressed by their designers as it is a shame that something so simple should be allowed to spoil what was, otherwise, a very pleasant experience.
