On 7 July, the Rachael Ray show ran a segment on Embarrassing Sex Questions ‘Answered‘.
One of the ladies in the audience talked about the side-effects of having children and was brave enough to ask how she could return her vagina to its pre-labour condition.
There was a very good expert, Dr Hilda, on hand to explain the various devices that could be utilised to bolster the normal Kegel exercises that are advocated for all mothers.
Following on from Teri Hatcher’s superb performance on Leno talking about her KegelMaster 2000, it would have been great to see even more mainstream publicity about the simple solutions to an endemic female problem.
Sadly, Rachael Ray turned the whole thing into a circus. Yes, sex is meant to be fun and, with our society’s ‘dirty postcard’ mentality, talking about anything related to the pubic area makes us all look at the ground and giggle self-consciously. But Miss Ray showed such immaturity during the piece that I was embarrassed, as much for her as for the poor woman who had asked the question in the first place.
The hostess’s inane giggling and shocked behaviour at some of the kegel exercisers being produced by Dr Hilda did the whole campaign for improved awareness of these vital exercises a huge disservice and was totally disrespectful to the members of her audience who might not have wanted to be made to feel like freaks because they needed to use such tools.
If more women of Rachael Ray’s age were familiar with these tools at a younger age and recognised the value of a regular pelvic floor workout, the twin problems of incontinence and prolapse could become things of the past.
Ruf often talks about a particular lady with whom he was digitally familiar. He said it felt as if he was ‘chucking a sausage up an alley’ because there were no ‘sides’ to allow him to get his bearings. That poor woman must have been deprived of any form of sexual gratification if things were that loose, as well as being on the cusp of suffering from leakage. I can only hope that she actually went to her doctor soon after and was given the necessary advice about Kegel exercisers.
However, so many women will suffer in silence because they either think it is normal or they are too embarrassed to seek help and proceed to soldier on for years and years with wet pants and bad sex.
The hostesses of these prime time shows have a huge responsibility to the women in their audience and, whilst it must be hard living in the shadow of a serious authority figure like Oprah, Rachael Ray would do well to remember that one day, she too will start to suffer the ignominies of a female body that has lived through all the experiences that womanhood has to offer. To belittle the problem or, worse, make the solutions seem dirty, silly or just plain impossible is very short-sighted and totally irresponsible.
If Rachael Ray feels that uncomfortable about dealing with such important health issues, then she should leave them alone and stick to safe subjects like cooking.
Whilst researching this piece, I found a video where some wag has taken a selection of audio clips from the show and made up his own story. I give you Rachael Ray Sex…

I’m not at all surprised by this. And the dichotomy is that with her energy, she might actually be a really fun fuck. But not with THAT attitude.
Hey Ron, LOL, I’m not that familiar with her being British and all but the clips I have seen do rather make me want to slap her :)
Wonderful! Maybe if we all ban together, we could ‘shame’ her into doing a show on the seriousness of the problem. http://www.rachelrayshow.com/club/board/show/2206/
I’ve had my say on the site, I really hope some other ladies will back me up x
