Sometimes you just have to praise good service.
I ordered a new battery for my laptop – continually forgetting to unplug it from its charger over the last ten months has taken its toll to the extent that its endurance off charge is now only just about an hour.
I knew that it was due to arrive this morning before 1pm but I had to go to my yoga class between 11.30 and 12.30.
As expected, when I returned at just after 1, there was the card saying that he had tried to deliver it at 12.05. Typical.
I called up the parcel deliveries company to be met with an automated response thing which gave me the option to press a button to select a day for the redelivery, but no choice of morning or afternoon. Eventually I managed to find a telephone number for customer services so that I could try to speak to a real person. When I finally got through, the young lady was very helpful but unable to guarantee that the parcel would be with me either in the morning or the afternoon. So I was faced with having to stay in for the day tomorrow.
Imagine my surprise when, three hours later, there was a knock on the door.
It was the courier, handing me my parcel. I’ve seen him several times and always exchanged pleasantries – even when he wasn’t delivering a parcel to my house.
He smiled and said: ‘You weren’t in earlier but I was passing on my way back and saw your car so I thought I’d try again‘
Sometimes being friendly really does pay off.
I don’t think I’ll ever really be an adult; when you mentioned getting a package delivered, porn music started to play in my mind =)
I like stories like this though, we are so quick to “punish” bad service and make life difficult when someone isn’t living up to our expectations, but we often forget to be courteous when they do.
