Morning

I love waking up in his bed.

The soft light coming through the curtained window and my body flat on the futon where I have discarded the slimmest of pillows that I ever use here.

I am, as usual, in the middle of the bed but my foot strays sideways to find his. To remind myself that I am here.

The returned pressure of his flesh against mine reassures me that he too has become aware of my presence in his bed.

We lie there, still dozing for some time. Just luxuriating in that knowledge that what is to come is not a pipedream but a reality.

Imperceptibly sliding towards each other until I am aware of the warmth of his breath on the back of my neck, the soft prickly fuzz of chest hair just touching my back.

All the time, appreciating that we have time on our side. There is no lust in our hearts, only enjoyment of that intimacy. That togetherness.

His arm falls around me and pulls me in close. Notices the hunch of my shoulder and softens it backwards before placing his lips there with the gentlest of kisses.

He whispers: ‘I love you’, and we drift off again.

Secure in our lovers embrace.

So peaceful, but it will not be long now…
