Here is this week’s Movie Clip Wednesday whilst Anonymous Boxer works her socks off.
Search the video channels to find the best representation of the given theme – however lateral – and then post ‘Im Up’ in the comments box below my entry so that we can all come round to check for jinxes and great films that we have either never seen or not viewed in a long time.
There’s really only one winner of this one and it has to be Robin Williams as Mrs Doubtfire.
However, because I’m sure I will get jinxed on that one, I shall give you a selection of other contenders with special mentions for Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in Some Like It Hot and Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie.
I would also like to remind everyone of the fabulous performance of Alistair Sim in the original St Trinians movies, where he played both the headmistress and her twin brother, Clarence, the bookmaker.

I think of your 3 choices, Some Like It Hot is probably the most watchable – for me. It was actually pretty funny although I haven’t seen it in a while. Nathan Lane? *shudder*
Mr. Obvious Choice is up at the Buzzkill. We need never speak of this theme again.
I’ll be around later tonight to visit everyone.
Happy MCW!
I am sorry, dear Joanna, I have not participated this week, again. Last week I simply found no time – and this week my imagination is too week: Besides the usual suspects as Divine, the transsexual Transsylvanian, the Australian bus journey and “nobody’s perfect”, I only remembered George Sanders in Drag (in The Kremlin Letter 1970, two years before his death) – a very interesting man, but a really lousy film imho, directed by Houston, well photographed, well casted, stuffed to the brim with clichees … free on youtube, Sanders appears for the first time in part two playing piano in a gay bar in SF.
Sanders was husband number two to Gabor, later married ZsaZsa’s older sister and after this separation lost the ground under his feet. He killed himself in Spain, saying in his last note that he found live boring. He was struggeling with a seemingly steeply declining health. Please accept my apologises.
Goodnight Joanna,
Some like it hot was good even if it was a little weird. Lemmon and Curtis were fine talents add the eye candy of Marilyn Monroe, well I guess that’s what made it a classic.
Sorry I’m so late, I’m up with something from the old west.
Hope you’re finding your evening comfortable and quiet.
Kinky Boots – which interestingly enough is the only film nominated where the cross-dresser is cross-dressing because that is what they like to do. All the rest are doing it for subterfuge or it is a man wearing drag playing a woman.
Mago, Your verbal entry is very much appreciated and I always enjoy the different angle that you take :)
BuzzK… A spot of MrsD on the cards…? Im on my way :)
Karl, no doubt about it, a classic that appeals to people of all ages and genders :)
OOh, Mike, I haven’t seen this one! I must put it on my list. And I like your thoughts too. Thanks for playing :)
I am surprised that nobody brought up either Julie Andrews or Jaye Davidson. Both were excellent choices.
NV, Julie Andrews and Jaye Davidson are really men…? :P
