Here is this week’s Movie Clip Wednesday whilst Anonymous Boxer continues on her break.
Search the video channels to find the best representation of the given theme – however lateral – and then post ‘Im Up’ in the comments box below my entry so that we can all come round to check for jinxes and great films that we have either never seen or not viewed in a long time.
It was BuzzKill who suggested Best Garden Scene and my thoughts immediately went to Henry VIII courting Anne Boleyn in the garden at Hever Castle in Anne of The Thousand Days but then a second scene came into my head.
One that rather influenced my determination to succeed as a martial artist. The Bride learning her craft from Pai Mei and beginning to feel the art rather than just pay lip service to the accepted mechanics of it.
There were several clips that were over 9 minutes and showed their first meeting in his garden and Pai Mei’s initial distain for her temerity to think that a caucasian woman could ever even attempt to learn so, in keeping with the rules of MCW, I go with something shorter and a very fitting backing track.

I am stumped…as to what is the best garden scene…unless you want to count Mr. Blond’s casual stroll to the car in “Reservoir Dogs” where you can see some sort of industrial garden. ;)
Don’t laugh–Ain’t never seen Kill Bill!!
I’se up!
Excuse me, I forgot. I would have choosen something terrible philosophical by Tarkovsky, either “Offret” or a very long mirror shot.
Thank you for your helpful comment, Joanna.
Sorry I’m late today. Kill Bill is a great movie. I like the first one better than the second, and the fight between the Bride and O-Ren Ishii in the Japanese garden at the House of Blue Leaves was one I thought of when I suggested this theme, But Pai Mei’s garden is just as good. I’m up at the Buzzkill with a garden you can’t refuse.
Happy MCW!
Ah, NV, we can’t have Reservoir Dogs twice in a row! You must remember some film which involves a garden or a bit of green shrubbery at least! :P
Hey, Aunty B, when you know you have to commit to watch two long films… I understand totally
Im afraid I’ve not heard of either of those, 63mago! But Im loving that you bring something a little different to the meme :)
Ah, Buzz, I had forgotten the Japanese garden scene! But this is always the one that sticks with me from that film. I guess I always looked at some of my teachers as potential Pai Meis…
