It’s Movie Clip Wednesday and it’s still me whilst Anonymous Boxer is still hard at it. Post your entry on your blog and type I’m Up in the comments box here so that I can come over and check out your selection.
This week, it could have been Jennifer Beals’ steelworker in Flashdance, Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet or even Doris Day as Calamity Jane.
But the one that really resonated with me was this.

I have never seen Million Dollar Baby and I don’t know why. Eastwood, Freeman, Swank, academy award, girls punching each other…It doesn’t make any sense.
I had a tough time with this theme and all I could come up with was Flashdance.
Happy MCW!
BuzzK, You should watch it because it’s quite memorable.
I run a tumblr called Fuck Yeah Tough Girls that’s full of this stuff. Though it’s mostly real-life women in nontraditional contexts — in the military, car racing, contact sports, motorcycles, generally being badass. I do it because it’s thrilling to me how easy it is to find these images now: when I was growing up, I never saw any images of the kind of woman I wanted to grow up to be.
Fabulous stuff, Lily. Thanks for posting the link. As you say, Charlie’s Angels was about as tough as girls got in my day… Oh, and Private Benjamin!
