Kegelmaster 2000 Review

"KegelMaster"Yup, this is the device that Teri Hatcher talked about on Leno. Bringing vagina exercise to mainstream television. I love that woman! She was so naughty and yet incredibly revealing.

At first sight, the KegelMaster 2000 looks like an instrument of torture. No, I mean really! It works a bit like a speculum, in that you insert it and then twist a knob to make the internal springs open the jaws wider until they touch both the side walls of your vagina.

But let’s start at the beginning. The KegelMaster is what is known as a ‘Progressive Resistance Vaginal Exerciser’ and is designed to increase vaginal muscle tone. Not, as Jay Leno suggested, so that she could lift heavier weights – although it will mean you can use heavier, smaller vaginal cones – but to build up the strength and staying power of those muscles.

Progressive resistance is the type of exercise most often taught at gyms and health clubs so you do it on a regular basis and the easier it becomes, the harder you make the exercise by increasing the pressure against which you are working. Rather than pumping frantically in short bursts, this process will build up the muscle fibres gradually, culminating in enduring strength and tone.

As with most kegel exercisers, the literature extols its virtues in eliminating urinary stress incontinence – almost 100% effective with regular use over a few short weeks.

It also works with those women who are preparing for, or recovering from, childbirth as it allows them to build up their vaginal strength and control to ease labour and then regain their vaginal tone after the labour.

The leaflet also claims that regular use will ease menopausal symptoms like vaginal dryness and atrophy. Certainly, my experience has been use it or lose it so, if you’re not having regular sex, then you should probably invest in one of these and use it once or twice a week if you want to avoid shrinkage of those delicate tissues due to the lack of oestrogen.

What I didn’t realise was that some women also experience vaginal dryness as a result of regular strenuous exercise like jogging, cycling and aerobics so vagina exercise would certainly be another form of work-out to add to their fitness regime.

The benefits of the Kegelmaster 2000 are listed as:

Stimulates muscle growth to allow for greater G Spot arousal during intercourse and decreases the time it takes to reach orgasm, whilst increasing the intensity.

Improves the blood flow to the vagina and surrounding tissues, increasing elasticity and vaginal embrace sensitivity and natural vaginal lubrication. I guess that means you can feel the man inside you better and accommodate the more well endowed gentleman.

So, after I got it out of the box, I washed it in warm soapy water. It’s about the length of your average erect penis (6-7 inches) pinky mauve in colour and made of a sort of plastic with two arms meeting at a hinged joint – a bit like butterfly wings. Down the middle are four posts and four springs and the device clamps together with a screw.

The idea is that you start off with one spring in place and gradually build up to four. I went straight in at three and discovered that it was too easy so had to withdraw it and add in the fourth one. I read somewhere that you could get build up even further by ordering stronger springs but I don’t see any mention of that on the literature.

Closing the spring shut, I lubed it up with some of the new super-slippery ‘green’ Astroglide that I am currently testing. This is a lubricant that is made from natural plant extracts with none of the chemical additives which some research has suggested may be responsible for an increase in yeast infections in susceptible individuals.

Anyway, back to the KegelMaster, which I was in the process of pushing into me. It feels a bit ‘plasticky’ at first, not sharp as such, just not like the soft, smooth silicone of my toys.

After inserting the business end as far s the ‘flare’ – this means that it goes in about 2-3 inches – it was time to widen the jaws by turning the screw.

And this is where I hit a small problem. With my hands so slippery from handling the lube, I struggled to turn the screw and the problem was compounded by my usual problem of not being able to remember which way to twist to tighten or loosen. Add in the perspective problem because the device was now facing away from me and it took me some time to master what should have been a very simple task. Clockwise to close, anti-clockwise to open.

Anyway, once that small drama was overcome, I widened the jaws until I could feel them on both sides and then I started to squeeze. Three sets of 30 slow squeezes, each held for two seconds at the top before loosening off again. It took about 15 minutes and was really rather relaxing.

I have to say, it was extremely effective. When I removed the device, it was apparent from the amount of additional moisture that my innards had actually enjoyed the experience.

I think the KegelMaster is going to be a keeper.
