I expect you’ve seen the book in my sidebar and wondered what that was all about.
As you know, I’ve been paying a lot of attention to my pelvic floor over the last few months. This is a big sling of muscles, like a hammock, that runs from the bottom of your spine between your legs to your pubic bone. It holds in place the bladder, the rectum, the womb and the vagina and, providing the correct tension is maintained, then all is well.
However, at certain times in a woman’s life, those muscles can become slacker, risking the prolapse of all those organs but also causing problems with bladder weakness, piles and the ability to orgasm. The main culprits are the muscle-relaxing hormones released towards the end of pregnancy, compounded by the stretching caused by the passage of the baby’s head, and the hormonal imbalance which is the direct result of the Menopause. But these are closely followed by obesity and a sedentary lifestyle.
The main side-effects are a loss of sensitivity and the feeling that ‘all is not right down there’ when making love, repeated urinary tract infections and hemorrhoids but, the worst case scenario, is that you can find your womb, vagina, bladder or rectum starting to fall out.
You guys might be thinking that you get away scot free, but you’d be wrong. Obesity and lifestyle also affect the pelvic floor of men, causing problems with the prostate, as well as erectile dysfunction. Erections can be harder to come by and be less enduring.
The good news is that there is a simple, but extremely effective, remedy for all of the above which can be hugely beneficial to both sexes.
Kegel and pelvic floor exercises.
I know, I’ve gone on about these before and shown you one of the better Kegel muscle stimulators, which come with pre-programmed electrical pulses, designed to stimulate the muscles in the area so that they contract and release according to which problem you are trying to alleviate or prevent.
But there is another way.
Just doing the Kegel and pelvic floor exercises themselves. Tightening and releasing the muscles that you use when you wee.
However, so many people, for whatever reason, simply do not do the exercises correctly.
The brilliant thing about the Kegel Magic book is that it tells you exactly what you should be doing, when and how long for. It was written by Caroline Ward who, after having her first child, was fed up with feeling like an old woman and not being able to enjoy sex with her husband. She spent lots of money on quick-fix aids to help stimulate her muscles and saw many doctors and medical professionals before fixing upon a regime of exercises that really work… for men as well as women.
I try to do them every day and have a post-it note on my fridge saying ‘Kegels’ so that whenever I’m waiting for the kettle to boil, I squeeze and release a few times. So many people will say ‘Oh, I’m too busy to do them!’. But the beauty is that you can do these anywhere. Waiting at the bus stop, standing in the check-out at Tesco, sitting in your car at a red traffic light. The only way that anyone can tell is by the slight lift of your eyebrows as you concentrate.
Even better, you can do them around the electrical stimulus of your Kegel machine stimulators, improving the effectiveness and the speed of improvement, vaginally for women and with the special anal probe for the guys.
But, best of all, is when you use them whilst making love.
For a woman, what better time to practice than when she has a willing and enthusiastic tester who can give her feedback on what she’s doing and how much tighter it feels?
And, for a man, to be told which of his clenches causes his penis to hit the right spot from the best angle.
Done correctly, you should be able to see the benefits within four weeks… and Caroline offers a money-back guarantee if you don’t.

And doing Kegel exercises can help men become multi-orgasmic. I tend to forget about doing Kegels. When something reminds me of it, like your post, I do them for a few days and then forget about them again. I think I need a reminder. :)
I tend to do them while I’m sitting down working. I spend much more days NOT doing them, so I don’t know if this is it, but I have had at least one experience recently where I came without ejaculating.
Thanks for the reminder Joanna!
Absolutely. Men just don’t seem to understand how important it is to sexual performance to keep that sling of muscles properly taut. I’m sitting at my laptop doing them too.
Ruf has had similar experiences since starting to do them regularly.
Very right! Kegel’s are for women AND men, easily done anywhere without anyone’s knowledge and is vital for maintaining or improving your bladder control, sex life, and other things as well. I do a few every morning while I am waking up and still in bed, more when brushing my teeth, a few while waiting on the coffeepot to finish and so it goes throughout the day. Someone may have a lack of time excuse to not do a full spin class or yoga session, but there is no time excuse for not doing Kegel’s. ThePinkPoppet.
