As you know, I am a great fan of kegel exercisers of all types so when I saw that Lelo, the world’s most exquisite sex toy designers, had produced their own kegel balls, I immediately got onto the lovely people at Stress No More and asked if they would send me a set of Lelo Luna Beads.
As I have come to expect from a Lelo product, they came beautifully packaged in the familiar black box and the contents were not a disappointment either. Sculpted geisha balls which allow you to exercise your vaginal walls whilst simultaneously deriving stimulation. And they came with the traditional silk case to keep them in.
According to the blurb: The Luna bead system is a combined pleasure and exercise system for the circum vaginal and pelvic floor muscles. By marrying incremental resistance with a movement-induced subtle kinetic vibe, Luna beads faciliate more efficient and pleasurable Kegel-exercising.
There are four balls, each measuring 36mm in diameter and made of ABS silicone, two petal pink weighing 28g and two powder blue at 37g with a hygienic retraction leash for safe and easy removal.
You can mix and match according to your ability to hold onto them so if you are only able to use one of the 28g ball, it should be the foundation bead – that’s the one with the white retraction leash. If you’re able to manage two, you use the specially-designed composition girdle, threading the foundation bead through the hole and matching up the guidelines to ensure it is securely in place.
Being something of an afficionado, I jumped straight in at the deep end and slipped the two heavier powder blue balls into the composition girdle, lubed up the leading edge of the top one and stuck my foot on the bed to push them in. I’ve never been able to insert a Lil-let tampon (the ones without an applicator) so I wasn’t sure that I could achieve this but the smooth silicone slipped in fairly smoothly. It was rather weird as your muscles try to push the first one out whilst you’re trying to insert the second but just take a deep breath and relax.
According to the instructions, they should be positioned so that the lower edge of the foundation bead is 2cms above your pelvic floor muscle with the retraction leash protruding from your vagina. It’s odd because it’s almost as if my muscles or pubic bone form a sort of ledge that anything slightly bulbous sits on quite happily. Those babies were not coming out again under their own steam even if I jumped up and down.
Beginners may find that the beads start to slip out after only a few minutes but, the more you use them, the easier they become to retain. The idea is to keep them in for 30 minutes whilst you walk, run or move about. This motion causes a kinetic vibe which stimulates the vaginal muscles, whilst gravity will bring about spontaneous pubococcygeus muscle contractions as the muscles try to prevent the beads from falling out.
It sounds like the ideal way to multi-task when it comes to exercising and having a good time, however, I wasn’t feeling it. Whether this is because I am using my skeleton to hold them in rather than the correct muscles, I’m not sure. I could feel them rolling around together and it was not unpleasant but did the kegel balls give me an orgasm?
Sadly, not.
However, that’s not to say that they won’t work for you. And it could just be that I need to work on a slightly different version of kegel exercises because of the shape of my body. I find the Kegelmaster type pelvic toners far more challenging because I have to squeeze with the muscles further up to close the jaws of the device.

I have Smartballs! They don’t do as much as these seem to though, I ownder if these are different – they’re not orgasm inducing though, they just feel nice. Though the reviews of them seemed to suggest they work for some. Perhaps if you’re any way clitorally biased, it’s just not going to happen :)

Jo, it’s normally blokes who come on here and make such a brash assertion about their genitalia! ;P I think you’re right tho. My best orgasms always come through a mixture of the two types of stimulation so, probably, the only way the balls will work for me is if I work my button at the same time. Maybe not the thing on a trip round Sainsburys :)
