It was replying to Essin Em’s post on What Is Romance that made me realise just what a romantic Ruf actually is.
Beyond that rough exterior, he is probably the kindest, gentlest and most caring man I have ever met.
When my marriage was in turmoil, he would hold me, listen to me moan on and on tearfully and then say just the right things to put me back together again.
He has turned me from a woman who hated her body into the glorious vixen that you all know today.
Every night, he will read me a bedtime story from a book he chose especially to help me to deal with all the stresses that I put into my life.
He doesn’t have much money so, for my birthday, he spent the whole day pampering me – massages, food and, of course, fucking :)
Romance is when someone goes out of their way to give something of themselves because they love you.
As Tit for Tat commented in response to my post on Will Your Love Last? ‘Love is not a feeling but an action’
So, in answer to the question ‘Is Romance Dead?’, when you pick up your phone and read a text that says:
“…I need to tell you that I love you so so so much and I miss you. Sometimes it hits me and I realise how lucky I am to have such a lovely lady xx”
followed by a telephone call to inform you that tickets have been booked for a surprise visit…
Well, I’d say it’s still very much alive and kicking, even after over four years together.
Funny really because this week is the fifth anniversary of the day I reached up to peck his cheek and found my senses going into overdrive as two sets of pheromones recognised a kindred spirit.
I am pleased to be able to report that I shall not be sleeping alone tonight :)

It’s always so nice to read these things from you. It gives me hope. And yes, the love of a good man is certainly something to treasure! :) Enjoy your surprise visit…
Thanks Helga… Trust me, I am :)
Yes, it gives us hope *sigh!*
I said to Ruf today that we are very lucky. He replied that ‘you make your own luck’. I’m still of the opinion that Fate has a hand in putting people together but you did need to be open to its suggestions when sometimes they seem to be totally out of whack x
I agree with the hope part of it. But I have to add from male perspective. There I times I feel as though romance is dead because there are so many women unwilling to accept it. Such as opening a door for a woman only to get a snarky remark from her about being able to do it herself.
I know so many men have failed to provide romance in relationships. I know for me, women have failed to accept it.
As I said to Frenchy, you have to be open to some of Fate’s more obscure suggestions or you may miss out on your luck. Both men and women can be ‘snarky’ if they think another person is not suitable for them. I’m of the opinion that you will never know unless you stop and take the time to find out. And I love it when a man behaves like a gentleman. But then I’m also quite happy to hold a door open for a bloke if I get there first :)
