Im 35 and My Mum Can Hear Me Having Sex

grownups living with their parentsFurther to my post on how it’s not cost effective to work for many young people these days, I then found this report on older people living at home.

Rising house prices means that there are a large number of UK adults who have moved back in with mum and dad, earning the epithet ‘kidults’.

According to a survey commissioned by North West property development company, FreshStart Living, 41.4% of the one thousand over 25 year olds surveyed suffered from embarrassment because their love lives were conducted within the parental home.

In fact 44% of those still living at home admitted that they had had a one night stand whilst their parents were also at home – and almost 83% had been caught in the act.

Things were made even more difficult by the fact that for 20% of the kidults surveyed, their parents still expected them to adhere to rules about bed-sharing that had been in place when they were living at home as teenagers. So, even the 30% who were in a long-term relationship weren’t allowed to have their significant other stay over in their room, leading to a cat and mouse game as they attempted to hide the sexual side of their relationships from their parents.

As a result, 14.5% of the cohort surveyed said that they had been caught out when a parent had walked into their bedroom and caught them in flagrante delicto, with another 3.5% admitted to having a partner meet a parent whilst walking around the house naked.

Of course, the noises of sex are the real problem with 15.8% being told to keep it down by their parents and, from the other side of the coin, another third saying that they had to put up with the embarrassment of listening to their parents at it.

The property slump has meant that 90% of those surveyed could not afford to move out – with 32% saving for a mortgage and 54% unable to afford to rent. Over a third felt as if they had failed because they did not have their own place.

70% of those questioned felt that they should have ‘fled their parents nest’ by the age of 26 but the results seemed to suggest that many kidults are actually in their 40s and 50s, leading to low self-esteem at their lack of personal space.

  • I’m happy I grew up when I did and could move out of the parental home at the earliest possible instant, and then could screw to my heart’s content. My first wife once answered a telephone call from her mother whilst we were ‘at it’, with her on top. She actually continued to talk and fuck for a considerable time with Mum none the wiser.

  • See, this would never have worked for me. I would have had the embarrassing situation of knowing that my father was either peeking through the keyhole or listening at the wall. Every girl I ever brought to my parents house as a teenager had my father suddenly in fits of wonderful humor. Voyeurs, the lot of us.

LOL @MrW. I’m not sure what that anecdote says about your lovemaking… :P

Rups!!!! How wonderful to have you back :) But what a very unnerving thought! Did you put in extra effort purely because he was watching?

  • The opportunity never arose. He left home when I was sixteen! Eloped with his partner you could say, so I had the opposite of most children who left the nest, it was him not me.

Did you never spend the weekend with him and return the voyeuristic favour? PS, glad I now have your Shooting from the hip link, I couldn’t get the one against your name to work :) Coming over to visit!
