On the fortieth anniversary of the first international Earth Day, more than a billion people will be taking part in events designed to promote the creation of a global green economy.
Whilst our politicians spout forth volubly about green issues but, so often, without actually physically doing anything about them, this is our chance as individuals to do something that might make a difference.
In the UK, every week we separate our refuse into black sacks and then recycle our cardboard, cans, glass and plastic, as well as putting out blue bins containing organic matter for composting.
But there’s more we can do. Instead of looking at shelves full of dvds and books that we will never watch or read again, why not recycle them. Sure, you can take them to the charity shop but they may well just sit on the shelves there instead.
Amazon are offering a ‘recycle for cash’ service which allows you to exchange unwanted dvds and books that are in good condition for an Amazon gift card. And shipping is free.
