Over the weekend, for reasons that are not necessarily important and in between testing out the Rampant Rabbit Touch and the In2U Discovery Duo Balls, I decided to change the permalink structure of Having My Cake and Eating It Too and get rid of the dates which make the urls a little unmanageable.
I realised that I would be having problems with all the backlinks that I have built up over the four year duration of this blog and fiddled with my ht.access code as per the instructions given online. It didn’t work and I found myself having to use the fabulous Redirection plug in for all my most important ones.
It wasn’t the end of the world. If people typed in the url, they did get a 404 Not Found in the tab but, in most cases, they were re-routed to my Home page where I was able to upload a widget that advised them of the need to remove the date from their old link.
But, being so fiddly, it was not ideal.
So I am indebted to the lovely Bob at Our Sex Secrets for recommending the Change Permalink Helper Plugin which seems to have sorted it all out.
All I had to do was upload and install and it seems to have taken care of everything else :)
Thanks Bob!!!

You know, there was a reason I set your permalinks the way I did:

The creators of WP specifically suggest that you NOT set permalinks the way you have.

Thanks, AAG, I didn’t know that. This was to accommodate a very helpful plugin. I shall experiment for a few weeks and keep a close eye on the load times to see if it is having an effect.
