One of the things I’ve noticed as I dip my toe into the waters of internet marketing is that everyone is keen to get you to sign up to subscribe to ‘pay monthly’.
Membership sites, monthly training modules, etc. All these guys want to get regular income.
This is fine and dandy but you, as the subscriber, should bear one thing in mind.
If you subscribe to a monthly payment via your credit card and you decide that the product/service is not what you wanted, you then have to be able to get in touch with the seller in order to be able to cancel it. This puts you at something of a disadvantage. There are some unscrupulous dealers out there who make it very difficult for you to cease paying them money every month, so you should be forewarned.
As I understand it, the credit card companies are duty bound to pay up every month – unless the service is ‘not fit for purpose’ because you have agreed to it. In some cases, the only option is to go through the hassle of cancelling the card and starting again.
The best way to deal with this problem is to sign up to monthly agreements using PayPal. If you then decide that this is not a service with which you want to continue, you can cancel the subscription as follows:
1. Log in to your PayPal account.
2. Click ‘History’ at the top of the page.
3. Click the ‘More filters’ drop down menu, choose the ‘Subscriptions and agreements’ option and finally click ‘Subscriptions’.
4. Change the date, if necessary, and then click ‘Show’.
5. Click ‘Details’ beside the ‘Subscription Creation’ entry of the subscription you wish to view.
Now, sometimes, the item may not actually be listed under ‘Subscriptions’. In this case, click on ‘Money Sent’ and ensure that your search parameters have included the date upon which the last payment was made. When the page shows the payment that you want to cancel, click the ‘Details’ option next to it.
Underneath ‘Subscription Payment Made to…’, there should be a hyper-linked reference. Click on that and it will take you to the page that gives you the option to cancel at the bottom.
Et Voila – Hopefully!
